Barack H. W. Bush?

Följande är utdrag (obs, min fetstil) från State of the Union år 2008 (Bush) respektive 2010 (Obama).

George Bush år 2008:

“So last week, my Administration reached agreement with Speaker Pelosi and Republican Leader Boehner on a robust growth package that includes tax relief for individuals and families and incentives for business investment.”

Barack Obama år 2010:

“While we’re at it, let’s also eliminate all capital gains taxes on small-business investment and provide a tax incentive for all large businesses and all small businesses to invest in new plants and equipment.”

“American families have to balance their budgets, and so should their government.”

“/…/ families across the country are tightening their belts and making tough decisions. The federal government should do the same.”

“So I ask the Congress to double Federal support for critical basic research in the physical sciences and ensure America remains the most dynamic nation on earth.”

“Next, we need to encourage American innovation. Last year, we made the largest investment in basic research funding in history, /…/”

“Over the past 7 years, we have increased funding for veterans by more than 95 percent. As we increase funding, we must also reform our veterans system to meet the needs of a new war and a new generation. I call on the Congress to enact the reforms recommended by Senator Bob Dole and Secretary Donna Shalala, so we can improve the system of care for our wounded warriors and help them build lives of hope, promise, and dignity.”

“That’s why we made the largest increase in investments for veterans in decades last year. That’s why we’re building a 21st-century [Veterans Affairs]. And that’s why Michelle has joined with Jill Biden to forge a national commitment to support military families.”

“The other pressing challenge is immigration. America needs to secure our borders — and with your help, my Administration is taking steps to do so. /…/ Yet we also need to acknowledge that we will never fully secure our border until we create a lawful way for foreign workers to come here and support our economy. This will take pressure off the border and allow law enforcement to concentrate on those who mean us harm.”

“And we should continue the work of fixing our broken immigration system, to secure our borders, and enforce our laws, and ensure that everyone who plays by the rules can contribute to our economy and enrich our nations.”

“Every Member in this chamber knows that spending on entitlement programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid is growing faster than we can afford. /…/ I have laid out proposals to reform these programs. Now I ask Members of Congress to offer your proposals and come up with a bipartisan solution to save these vital programs for our children and grandchildren.”

“As temperatures cool, I want everyone to take another look at the plan we’ve proposed. /…/ But if anyone from either party has a better approach that will bring down premiums, bring down the deficit, cover the uninsured, strengthen Medicare for seniors, and stop insurance company abuses, let me know. /…/ Here’s what I ask Congress, though: Don’t walk away from reform, /…/”

Not too different after all? (Originalbilderna är hämtade här och här.)

“America is leading the fight against global poverty, with strong education initiatives and humanitarian assistance. America is leading the fight against global hunger. Today, more than half the world’s food aid comes from the United States. /…/ America is leading the fight against disease. And I call on you to double our initial commitment to fighting HIV/AIDS by approving an additional $30 billion over the next 5 years.”

“We’re working with Muslim communities around the world to promote science and education and innovation. /…/ We’re helping developing countries to feed themselves and continuing the fight against HIV/AIDS.”

“Let us fund new technologies that can generate coal power while capturing carbon emissions. /…/ The United States is committed to strengthening our energy security and confronting global climate change. And the best way to meet these goals is for America to continue leading the way toward the development of cleaner and more efficient technology.”

“It means continued investment in advanced biofuels and clean-coal technologies. And, yes, it means passing a comprehensive energy and climate bill with incentives that will finally make clean energy the profitable kind of energy in America.”

“We are working for a successful Doha round of trade talks, and we must complete a good agreement this year. At the same time, we are pursuing opportunities to open up new markets by passing free trade agreements. I thank the Congress for approving a good agreement with Peru. Now I ask you to approve agreements with Colombia, Panama, and South Korea.”

“And that’s why we’ll continue to shape a Doha trade agreement that opens global markets and why we will strengthen our trade relations in Asia and with key partners like South Korea, and Panama, and Colombia.”

“Together we should take the next steps: /…/ Let us increase the use of renewable power and emissions-free nuclear power. Let us continue investing in advanced battery technology and renewable fuels to power the cars and trucks of the future.”

“And no area is more ripe for such innovation than energy. You can see the results of last year’s investments in clean energy in the North Carolina Company that will create 1,200 jobs nationwide, helping to make advanced batteries, or in the California business that will put 1,000 people to work making solar panels. But to create more of these clean-energy jobs, we need more production, more efficiency, more incentives, and that means building a new generation of safe, clean nuclear power plants in this country.”

Det lär vara somliga som har reagerat på president Barack Obamas State of the Union och tänkt: har vi inte hört det där förut? Och svaret är:

Yes We Have!

    Israels makt i världen

“AIPAC is the dominant voice among the Israeli organizations in this country. And if you look at the purpose of AIPAC, it’s not to promote peace, it’s not to bring peace to Israel, it’s to promote and defend the policies of the incumbent government in Israel. And so they defend Israel. It’s politically impossible, as you know, for any member of Congress to make a public statement condemning or criticizing the policies of Israel. It would be political suicidal for them to do so. A lot of the members of Congress agree with me, some very high up in the Congress. But if they came out publically and said it, their seats would be in danger. ”

  3. Hej Simon..Det här hittar jag i röda malmö blog.

    Obama i rävsaxen..
Barack Obama sitter ordentligt i rävsaxen.
“There are no hunger-free areas of America,” said Jim Weill of the Food Research and Action Center. Weill said he hoped President Barack Obama would exempt public nutrition programs from a proposed three-year freeze on domestic spending.
I sitt första State of the Union-tal försökte Obama bemästra de svikna förhoppningarna.
